The 50th Super Bowl will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the NFL championship will go to Houston the following year.
Team owners voted Tuesday for the 49ers’ new stadium as host of the 2016 game. That facility in Santa Clara, Calif., is due to open for the 2014 season. The only previous Super Bowl played in northern California was at Stanford Stadium in 1985.
San Francisco beat out South Florida, which was stymied in its bid to stage an 11th Super Bowl when the Florida Legislature did not support financing to renovate Sun Life Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins.
Houston, which also beat out Miami, was awarded the 2017 title game. Reliant Stadium, the home of the Houston Texans, has hosted once before, in 2004.
WORST FITNESS MISTAKES-
Working out without a battle plan — Some people walk into the gym and wing it — with no sense of how well they’re working out all their muscles, then wonder why they don’t make progress. Write down a workout plan: Map out all your workouts to the set. Figure out your goals and set a plan to get there. Read books for ideas if you must, or take advantage of the trainers the gym makes available. They can advise you on proper form, the right machines for you, the frequency of your workouts and so much more.
YOU DRINK TO MUCH -
Your memory has temporarily gone missing.
Alcohol affects everyone differently, depending on your genes, what, if any, medications you’re taking, as well as whether you just ate a big meal (food slows the absorption of alcohol in your bloodstream). Still, researchers speculate that heavy drinking interferes with how you remember by disrupting a key brain messenger called glutamate, which is linked to memory. That means if you have ever “forgotten” parts of the night until your drinking buddies reminded you, or have woken up foggy as to how you got home and into bed, you’ve definitely had one (or three) too many.

“Endless love — or endless chat?”
Many online daters are voyeurs and just “pick and click” — that is, browse and chat. The endless supply of fresh faces, and the modern worker’s lack of leisure time, combine to make it difficult for people to ever actually go out on a date, says Hall, of the University of Kansas. Spending a lot of time to meet Mr. or Ms. Right “decreases your chance of ever doing so,” he says. Answering questions and looking at prospects for hour upon hour, he adds, “is not conducive to forming a good match, and it’s not exactly a productive use of your time.”
The sites are quick to point out their success rates: Match says it’s responsible for 12% of all dates in the U.S., while eHarmony cites marriage figures, saying its service accounts for 5% of all weddings in the U.S. Whatever the metric, there’s no doubt the Internet has become a major matchmaker. In a 2010 survey of over 12,000 people, performed by research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey and commissioned by Match.com, one in six couples who got married said they met online.
Users, meanwhile, typically stick to a site for three months before moving on, says Brooks, the dating-industry analyst. But then roughly one-fifth of members on the big sites return within 18 months, he says. (Whether returning clients’ first effort failed or they’ve recommitted to the search is unclear.)
A Canadian jazz singer apologized for botching the U.S. national anthem at the Memorial Cup junior ice hockey game in Saskatchewan.
Alexis Normand said she had been asked the day before the Saturday game to learn the Star-Spangled Banner to perform at the Western Hockey League game between Nova Scotia’s Halifax Mooseheads and Oregon’s Portland Winterhawks at Credit Union Center in Saskatoon, the Toronto Star reported Monday.
“I’m usually a quick study and I’ve been learning songs for a long time. I had learned all the lyrics, but nerves just got the best of me and I got really nervous and it all unwound from there,” Normand said.
She said the crowd rescued her from the situation by joining in to help her finish the song.
“I’m embarrassed and deeply sorry. I wish I’d had more time to learn the American anthem,” Normand tweeted after the game.
According to a new study, individuals who struggle with mathematics saw a notable increase in their ability to learn and retain arithmetic concepts when a mild current was sent into their brains by a pair of electrodes.
“So, first you get your brain shocked, then you get to take a math test? Where can I sign up for this study?”
